Pacific Scarab One
System description
The Pacific Scarab system consists of the following major components:
A 150 electric HP ROV (2 X 75hp); main umbilical connecting the vehicle to the surface handling equipment; jetting skid; Launch and Recovery System (LARS) consisting of recovery crane, umbilical winch, Hydraulic Power Units (HPU), and the overboarding sheave; the Control Van (CV) which houses the Power Distribution Unit (PDU) and the control consoles; and a Maintenance Van.
Electric Power for the consoles and the vehicle is provided by a dedicated generator. Two generators are supplied for this purpose. In certain cases, the power supply can be provided by ship’s power. The power supplied is 460 VAC, 3-phase, 60 Hz.
The vehicle components are controlled from the surface console through telemetry electronics located in the Telemetry Can on the vehicle. Telemetry and video signals are transmitted from the vehicle to the surface for display on the console monitors via optical fibers in the main umbilical.
The vehicle is raised and lowered with its latch probe mechanixm system using a crane. The crane, umbilical storage drum, levelwind unit, hydraulic power and control unit comprise the surface handling equipment in the Pacific Scarab systems.
The Pacific Scarab vehicle has an aluminium frame which is painted flat black and supports eight (8) thrusters, two (2) manipulators, fire pump, and various instruments. In its standard configuration the vehicle is equipped with ten (10) lights, three (3) pan and tilt units, three(3) B&W SIT cameras, one color camera, one black and white CCD camera, depth transducer, compass, sonar, long-range altimeter, short-range altimeter, pitch and roll sensors, responder/transponder, emergency transponder, radio beacon, strobe, and an innovatum cable tracking system. A jetting skid is bolted to the underside of the vehicle’s frame. System spares are provided in a Maintenance Van.
The Pacific Scarab System incorporates state-of-the-art technology for enhanced performance and ease of maintenance. All of the features which make the Pacific Scarab and advanced ROV system have been proven in the field.
